Granby Police and Ambulance Personnel Respond to Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on School St. Involving a Pedestrian

At approximately 3:36 pm the Granby Police Department received an Emergency 911 cell phone call reporting that there was a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on School Street. Granby Police and Granby Ambulance personnel were dispatched to the area of 24 School Street. Responding medical personnel provided emergency medical treatment to the victim. Granby Fire personnel were also dispatched to the scene to assist.
The victim was walking north bound on the shoulder of the south bound lane of School Street. The vehicle involved in the accident was travelling south bound on School Street. In the area of 24 School Street the motor vehicle struck the pedestrian. The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene and was identified as Tessa V. Desjardins (Age 20) of 1120 Federal Street in Belchertown.
Assisting with the investigation was The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section along with the Granby Police Department. School Street was closed to traffic for 5 hours while the accident scene was being investigated. The victims name is being withheld pending family notification.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
