License to Carry Firearms

Information

Types:

Class A  - all LEGAL firearms, shotguns, rifles and Mace/pepper spray –

Class B  Small capacity handguns ( les than 10 round capability)  and large capacity rifle and shotguns –

Class C ( FID) Small capacity rifles (under 10 rounds) and shotguns ( under 5 rounds) and mace/pepper spray.-

Note: Class A & B permits are usually restricted to target/hunting – if an unrestricted License is desired a Letter must be attached to the application spelling out the need for an unrestricted permit.

Who is eligible:

               

CLASS A or CLASS B

Class C- Class D (mace only)

Granby resident (Proof required)

21 year s of age

18 years of age- 15-18 w/ parent permission

Firearms safety class-  (MSP approved /new  issues only)

Firearms or hunters safety class

MSP approved/ new issues only)

No felony convictions- EVER

No felony convictions within 5 years

No misdemeanor conviction that carry a 2yr or more sentence (Incl. OUI after 1994)

No misdemeanor conviction that carry a 2yr or more sentence within  5 years

No confinement for alcohol abuse

No confinement for mental health within 5 years

No confinement for mental illness

No confinement for mental health issues within 5 years

No active restraining order

No active restraining order

 

No arrest warrants

No gun trafficking convictions

Cost – NON-REFUNDABLE  Application fee  

$100 for Class A, B or C  $25.oo for class D (MACE only- with free renewals) )

Process:

1.      Completion of application and payment of $100 application Fee

(NOTE: inaccurate or incomplete  applications, particularly concerning prior criminal record and/or residency, can result in denial of permit AND criminal charges.

              2.  fingerprinting via MIRCS automated fingerprint system

3.      Verification of application information

4.      Confirmation of eligibility by MSP and Dept. of Mental Health

5.      Permit received back from State  (valid for no more than 6 years)

6.      Permit delivered to place of residence

NOTE: If you change your address you are REQUIRED BY LAW to notify the Police Department  where your permit is issued, the Police Department  where  you are moving too, and the Firearms Records Bureau.
